David was a very proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher and friend. His nickname was \u201cTiny\u201d but David was truly larger than life, full of laughter and a spirit that never stopped exploring and entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>David met his wife Linda at the University of Waterloo. They fell in love on a motorbike journey in the pouring rain, a true test of a budding relationship. A cross Canada driving trip in a white convertible resulted in an engagement and the start of their life together.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of his long teaching career, he inspired generations of students in science, photography and computer science making lifelong friends along the way at Ledbury Park Elementary &amp; Middle School, Sir Sandford Fleming Secondary School and George S. Henry Academy.<\/p>\n<p>David was a true cottager at heart, always building and tinkering at Jordan Lake, usually with a cast iron pan or chef\u2019s knife nearby. He loved to cook and good beer and wine accompanied most of his activities. For decades, his wine club and regular visits to beer festivals were a source of joy and camaraderie with friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>He was a man of many hobbies &#8211; his motorcycles and dirt bikes took him on countless adventures over the years with friends and his early adoption of technology and communications led to conversations on ham radio with people around the world under his recognizable callsign &#8211; VE3FOB. He was also a passionate gun collector and target shooter, and was a fixture on annual hunting trips with friends around the cottage. He also loved travel, and many retirement years were spent on Pine Island in Florida, enjoying the unique character of the island and the one-of-a-kind characters at the Ragged Ass Saloon.<\/p>\n<p>And through it all, he was simply the coolest dad anyone could ask for as he embraced not only his own friends but the friends of his children Cass and Bronwyn, attending parties, festivals and concerts sharing his one-of-a-kind opinions on life and memorable stories. This continued on as he became a proud grandfather, savouring every moment with Leo, Poppy and Beatrice plus his \u2018bonus\u2019 grandkids Owen, Sienna &amp; Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Two and a half years ago, David survived a massive heart attack that left him with a permanent brain injury. Yet in true David fashion, he kept living each day with joy and humour. His memory would reset each morning, living his own version of <i>Groundhog Day<\/i>, but he found delight in pub lunches, holiday dinners, and fun times with friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>David\u2019s personality and influence touched so many. He will be deeply missed and remembered always. We can all strive to reach the standard he set for embracing life as passionately as he did.<\/p>\n<p>David is survived by Linda Enright, his wife for 55 years; son Cass (Heidi Avery) and daughter Bronwyn (Alexander Case); brother Tom (Linda); grandchildren Leo, Poppy and Beatrice; \u2018bonus\u2019 grandchildren Owen, Sienna and Austin; plus many nephews and nieces.<\/p>\n<p>A small gathering of friends celebrated David\u2019s wonderful life with wine, beer, classic rock and many memories.
